High-pressure measurement presents challenges beyond conventional pressure sensing. At pressures of thousands of PSI, engineers must consider media compatibility, diaphragm integrity, overpressure capability, temperature performance, and mechanical integration.

The AV Sensors MIOF-87N CC Series addresses these requirements with a 316L stainless-steel, media-isolated construction for 1000, 3000, and 5000 PSI applications. Available as either a customer-weldable OEM pressure cell or with an integrated process fitting, the series provides engineers considerable flexibility when designing high-pressure equipment.

The MIOF-87NCC is well suited for new OEM designs while also providing an alternative for applications currently using selected Measurement Specialties Model 87N pressure sensors.

A Flexible High-Pressure OEM Platform

At the heart of the MIOF-87NCC is a silicon piezoresistive sensing element isolated from the process media. Pressure applied to the 316L stainless-steel diaphragm is transferred through silicone oil to the sensing element, allowing use with liquids and gases compatible with 316/316L stainless steel.

For OEM integration, the sensor can be supplied without a process fitting, allowing the stainless-steel cell to be welded directly into the customer's assembly. Alternatively, AV Sensors offers multiple NPT, UNF, and BSP process fittings.

This flexibility allows manufacturers to integrate the sensing cell into a proprietary manifold or housing—or select a completed pressure interface ready for installation.

1000, 3000 and 5000 PSI Measurement

The MIOF-87NCC is available in 1000, 3000, and 5000 PSI, with both absolute and sealed-gage configurations.

For demanding high-pressure systems, the series also provides substantial pressure protection, with a specified 15,000 PSI proof pressure and 20,000 PSI overpressure capability.

These characteristics make the sensor particularly suited for hydraulic controls, compressors, pressure transmitters, robotics, and other high-pressure industrial equipment.

Constant-Current Excitation with Gain-Set Interchangeability

The MIOF-87NCC uses constant-current excitation, with 1.5 mA as the reference supply condition, and provides a temperature-compensated millivolt output.

An important feature for OEM production is the integrated gain-set resistor. When used with the recommended amplification circuit, the gain-set architecture provides a 3.012 V span with ±1% sensor interchangeability.

This approach reduces the need to individually adjust the external amplifier for sensor-to-sensor sensitivity differences, simplifying production calibration and field replacement.

Temperature-Compensated Performance

High-pressure industrial applications often operate across significant temperature changes. The MIOF-87NCC is compensated from -20°C to +85°C, with thermal errors of span and offset specified at ±1% FSS over the compensated range.

Pressure non-linearity is specified at ±0.25% FSS, with pressure hysteresis of ±0.05% FSS and repeatability of ±0.02% FSS.

Electrical termination can also be tailored to the application with solder pads, ribbon cable, or cable with connector options.

New Designs and TE Model 87N Alternatives

The MIOF-87N CC is well suited for new high-pressure OEM designs, combining 316L stainless-steel media isolation, pressures through 5000 PSI, temperature compensation, field interchangeability, and flexible mechanical integration. OEMs can select a customer-weldable cell or factory process fitting along with the pressure reference and electrical termination appropriate for the finished equipment.

The series also provides an alternative for selected TE Connectivity Model 87N applications, addressing many of the same requirements for high-pressure, media-isolated sensing, weldable construction, process fittings, and constant-current millivolt operation. For existing designs, AV Sensors can assist in evaluating the appropriate MIOF-87NCC configuration against a specific TE 87N part number; for new designs, the MIOF-87NCC provides a flexible platform for hydraulic controls, pressure transmitters, compressors, robotics, and other demanding high-pressure applications.
